Dad as the captain of the ferry "Pocahontas" on the Chesapeake Bay (circa 1962). He was the youngest man ever to attain this position.
This is a picture of the Pocahontas when she was on a regular run between Little Creek and Kiptopeake, Va. Dad was quite a crooner and loved to sing at churches and other functions. Here are a couple of clips that were recorded in 1956 with an old 78rpm phonographic recorder. Putting one through the Gilmerton Bridge in the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Va. This is the type of stuff he did everyday. Dad walking around on Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay. We went over to the Island to do some family tree research one year. |
